How does Skin Pen® Microneedling with PRP work?

The first step is to draw blood from the patient.  That blood will be centrifuged, and the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is separated in a form of serum, which is effectively collected and prepared to be administered by our nurse.

The next step is to start the Microneedling process with Skin Pen® in areas like the face and neck.  Skin Pen® Microneedling with PRP can also be applied for plastic surgery scars.  Please consult with Dr. Ron Soltero Plastic Surgeon as to the instructions for post-op scar treatment.

Skin Pen® creates controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process, while minimizing cellular damage.  The result: effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

Once the Skin Pen is applied, and the minimal micro-injuries are ready, the nurse applies the PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) to the area, so that the PRP serum penetrates these minimal injuries.  This process is repeated several times to make sure that the whole facial and neck area are treated with Skin Pen® Microneedling, and then covered with PRP plasma.

The final result is a “tightening” of the facial/neck/ and overall treated area.  You will also notice that there is minimal bleeding from the micro-injuries as well.

After the Skin Pen® Microneedling with PRP, which takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes, you are ready to go home.  That same day, the post-op instructions would be to stay comfortable at home, wash your face after 4 hours post-procedure,  and apply the given serum for added moisture to your face and neck and treated areas.

Down time is just the day of the procedure, the next day you are able to resume normal activities.

Results will be apparent anywhere from the next day up to months of post-op procedure.  For best results, 3 treatments or more, spaced 30 days between each treatment, are recommended.

Skin Pen® Microneedling with PRP works for all skin types.  Most procedures take about 30 minutes and results are visible after 3 treatments.

What Should I Expect Post-Procedure?

The skin will appear slightly pink to red immediately post-procedure, similar to a mild to moderate sunburn.  Additionally, the most common treatment responses experienced were dryness, itching, peeling, discomfort, tenderness, and burning.  These conditions resolved over time without any further complications.

Will It Work for Me?

Unlike most alternatives, Skin Pen® has been clinically shown to be effective for women and men with skin ranging from light to very dark.  Likewise, Skin Pen’s mechanical process is less abrasive than harsh chemical peels.  In addition, when you properly space treatments that are overseen by a physician, the procedures  can be administered year- round.

Is it Safe?

Yes, by design, Skin Pen® patent-pending single-use, sterile needle cartridge is built with safety in mind.  Skin Pen® is also surrounded by a proprietary Bio Sheath that acts as a barrier to prevent cross contamination between procedures.  Safety measures like these are part of the reason Skin Pen® is the first Microneedling device cleared by the FDA, and the only device we would be offering at Ron Soltero Plastic Surgery, approved by Dr. Ron Soltero Plastic Surgeon.
